REGENERATIVE SYSTEMS : PART 2

Established in the key moves and systems of living that were investigated in my masterplan, I designed a temporary pavilion for a hyperthetical ‘Festival of Regenerative Practices’ that would be held at Te Rauparaha Park, Porirua City.  This pavilloin, oriented around the potential of circular and contained waste systems, is designed to prompt Porirua community in material-focused discussion and is meant to empower, support, and articulate regenerative systems at an urban scale.

Tactility                                            Materiality                                                                      Solitude

The 're-formed' pavilion, located in Te Rauparaha park, is a regenerative urban space that tranforms  demolition waste into a space for reflection, stillness, and solitude.

With construction and demolition waste making up to 53% of the total material disposed of at the local spicer landfill, there is an opportunity and a need to create circular waste strategies that focus on repurposing  what we already have. This pavilion acts as a display of two innovative repurposed materials that can help redirect this waste stream.

The first material focus is the 'Pretty Plastic Panels' (making up the black facade and the shingled interior wall). The panels are made from 100% recycled PVC from window and door frames, downspouts, and gutters. The    second is a bio-material made from salvaged sawdust, woodchips, and wood offcuts, forming unique wood fibre sheets that vary in transparency.
