PROJECT TYPE:
Fine Arts - Group Exhibition
DATE:
October 2025
Reframing perspectives on the built environment, we invite viewers to consider how we are shaped by our surrounding structures. We approach the built environment from different angles, touching on themes such as the everyday, layers, permanence, legacy and impact. Our work is tied together by an underlying sense of unease or tension - a belief that our built environment is not neutral but aproduct of historical a nd contemporary cultural influences. Our works testify to the ways in which structures shape our interactions both with each other and the wider environment, capable of both enhancing or hindering those relationships.
The recent restructure of the university curriculum has seen this space change from the Fine Arts workshop to an exhibition space: a considerable loss that nonetheless has led to new opportunities. Much of this history - and its paradoxes - is visible within the site. The herringbone wood floor, the old sinks, and the many, many layers of paint, scratches and spills where several generations of students have left their marks.
